First Day of School

The first day of school is always a day of mixed blessings…for some, it’s a tearful goodbye to your “Baby” as you send them off to begin their lives as a BIG GIRL or BOY with lunch bag in hand…for other, more senior parents it is a day to CELEBRATE: WooT!!! They are finally back to school;)

No matter where in your parenting career you may find yourself, today is a BIG day.

Remember you can never get the time back so feel free to cry, hug, hold on to until the last second the bus doors close or just flat out scream, “I LOVE YOU BABY…I’LL BE WAITING FOR YOU RIGHT HERE!!!”

(Try not to do the last part after they get into high school. My son’s peers seem to like it, but I don’t think my son did. Just a lil tip.)

On my son’s first day at school, I took a little extra time to pack magical kisses in each of his pockets. I had read something somewhere about mommy’s giving their children “magical kisses” in case they were ever seperated so I thought, what better to give Jeffrey for his trip to school?

As we stood by the front door posing for pictures I mentally reviewed everything my baby boy would need for his frist day & of course said it out loud so Jeffrey would know what to expect: “Lunch box- check, bus route pinned to your shirt-check, Name & phone number written on backpack- check, imaginary kisses is each pocket-check!”

“What mommy? Why do I have magic kisses in my pockets?” Jeffrey asked.

“Well, when you go to school I won’t be there in case you fall down or get scared. If that happens & you wish I were there to “kiss it & make it better,” just reach into your pocket & pull out this kiss (I kissed my palm, closed it real quick & slid it into his pcoket). It will be just like I am there & I will feel you need me from wherever I am & send extra love right away. Just in case, I’ll give you two. Never can be too careful…” I explained.

Jeffrey smiled his little, “whatever you say mom,” smile. He knew it made me feel better to send him with his special magical kisses & that made him confident things were going to be OK!

Today as you send your babies off to meet their future, remember: No matter how old they get, they will always be your baby & no one can make it better, like you can.

It takes a lot of love to be able to let go…#GodBless

Brandy Johnson’s Gymnastics

Clermont Florida once one of the fastest growing communities in the United States* is now becoming one of the top destinations for athletes & Olympic hopefuls. Facilities such as the National Training Center & Brandy Johnson’s Global Gymnastics center offer state of the art facilities for everyone from beginners to advanced athletes.

We chose Brandy Johnson’s Gymnastics because Brandy wants to help every child fulfill their dreams whether they are trying to get to the Olympics, a college scholarship, or just taking the sport for fun. Brandy has been coached by the worlds finest. She in turn, has combined all the finest qualities of these people, their programs and added her personal coaching philosophies to create a  HAPPY, HEALTHY, LEARNING ENVIRONMENT FOR ALL…

My gorgeous & talented niece Brianna Parsons had her 1st official gymnastics meet at Brandy Johnson’s Gym Link to Brandy\’s Gym this past weekend & I must say, I was impressed! Not only was Brianna focused on what she was doing, she cheered for her team mates & even the girls on the other team. These girls train for hours a day & it really shows in their performance & discipline.

Brianna ended up placing 4th in the overall competition & 2nd in the Vault! Not bad considering this is her first year in gymnastics & this was her 1st ever meet. The important part of her experience is that she now understand why she trains for so many hours & that her hard work will show when she’s on the competition floor.

What impressed me the most was the fact that during the awards presentation, Brianna had such a determined look on her face. It was obviously very important to her to make a good showing. She had even reviewed w/me the areas that she felt she could have improved upon & realized that there was a chance she wouldn’t place in those events she felt she was a “little shaky” in. All this may not sound all that impressive until you realize, Brianna just turned 7yrs old.

~We have another meet this Sunday in Kissimmee FL, so please wish us luck!

VIKINGS-SAINTS REMATCH

FOOTBALL SEASON IS FINALLY HERE…

The NFL doesn’t disappoint by kicking off the season with a blockbuster REMATCH!

The Minnesota Vikings take on the New Orleans Saints tonight to the delight of fans everywhere.

Bret Favre never fails to disappoint when it comes to pre-season drama and of course this season was no different. Waiting til only a few weeks ago to announce once again, that contrary to popular belief, he was returning for another year as the driving force of the Minnesota Vikings. Of course during his press conference he made several Favre like comments that implied he didn’t know if with his ankle injury he would be able to live up to the stellar season the Vikings had last year, but those who have followed Brett’s career know he wouldn’t have returned if he couldn’t perform.

“To be totally honest with you, all those hits didn’t really hurt…”

admitted Brett Favre when asked if he felt that he was targeted to be “taken out” by the Saints defense in the NFL Championship Game of 2009.

This season opener will test not only Brett’s ankle but allow the Vikings the chance to dish out a little payback for the controversial 2009 NFC Championship game. Anyone who missed it, didn’t get to see several late hits by the Saints defense that left the already aging quarterback slow to get up and perhaps contributed to his uncharacteristic final interception. Never one to openly complain, Favre dispelled rumors that he felt the Saints were intentionally trying to take him out of the game adding, “I felt worse after the San Fransisco game than that one,” perhaps his way of letting the New Orleans Saints know he can take whatever they want to dish out.

Last years final match up went into overtime leaving football fans everywhere glued to their TV sets during the final seconds of what was disputed to be the best game of the entire season. Ending in Favre’s fatal interception and crushing the Vikings dreams of taking home Superbowl rings.

The Saints won 31 – 28 thanks to a 40 yard field goal by Garrett Hartley. Despite the Saints victory, die hard fans across the country were left with the feeling that this match up was not really over, allowing the rivalry to simmer throughout the off season to a near breaking point.

Tonight’s game will not only help add some closure to last years heart wrenching Vikings loss but set the tone for the season.  A win over the Saints will let the NFL and the world know, Bret Farve and his boys are back: stronger and  better than ever! Make no mistake, Drew Brees and his army of Saints fans are not likely to let that happen easily.

New Orleans Saints will have home field advantage, sending thousands of “Aint’s” fans into a cheering frenzy. Pollsters and NFL spreads alike also favor the Saints to win tonight by 5 points, with the total sitting at 48 points. Regardless of the outcome, history has shown that when these two teams lock horns, both teams play at their best!

Tonight’s game will hold the answers to questions sports fans everywhere want to know:

  • Can 40 year old Brett Favre possibly live up to his stellar 2009 stats, throwing for 4202 yards w/33 touchdowns & only 7 interceptions?
  • Did the Saints shrug off their post Superbowl hangovers in time to get themselves back into post season contention?
  • Will Percy Harvin be able to fill Sydney Rice’s shoes as Favre’s favorite target?
  • Does Drew Brees really have what it takes to become one of the top NFL quarterbacks of all time or was he a one hit wonder?
  • Has Adrian Peterson figured out how to hold on to the ball?
  • How will Reggie Bush perform in light of his humiliating Heisman Trophy scandal?

ONLY TIME WILL TELL…TUNE IN TONIGHT AT 8:30!!!

“Ring, Ring…Hello?”


“Girl, have you been on FaceBook? Did you see what that girl wrote on his wall???”


“He friended how many girls in the last 30 minutes??? This is it…I’m calling him right now.”

<CLICK> You hang up the phone. As you begin to speed dial his number you wonder exactly what are you going to say to him? Luckily the blood pumping through your pounding temples & burning cheeks are making you feel no fear when he answers after the 1st ring.

“Hello…” he has no clue what he is in for. You almost feel sorry for him when you hear how sweet his voice sounds when he answers. That blend of excitement & puppy love in his voice are charming but nothing will erase the sound of your best girlfriend telling you & all your other girlfriends about what he just did to you on FaceBook!

“I can’t believe you friended all those girls today! Don’t you work or have a life…all you have to do is sit around & friend girls all day? Do you think it’s right for some girl to say she “can’t wait to have some alone time w/you,” right on your wall?

“Darling, those are my cousins & high school friends…it’s nothing everyone knows about you & me baby,” he can almost see a sliver of light. He just may make it through this if he plays his cards right.

“IF EVERYONE KNOWS ABOUT US…THEN WHY HAVEN”T YOU CHANGED YOUR FACEBOOK STATUS?”

John Doe hangs his head because he knew that he’d been beat. There was simply no way he could get himself out of this corner tonight without a whole lot of work.  She was NOT in the mood to listen to his excuse.

*Giggles…this a problem many of my friends are going through RIGHT NOW! My point of view is that if people are together they are. A piece of paper, nor a FB status will prevent a man from cheating if he wants to. It’s the commitment & moral value that a man has deep in his heart that determine that. IF you trust the person you are with, you won’t have to worry about what a FB status may say. Your partners action & reaction to the world around him/her will prove where his/her interest lie.

HAVE CONFIDENCE IN YOURSELF…DEMAND RESPECT…EARN RESPECT BY GIVING IT

Obama Healthcare Passes

So… we just passed a health care plan written by a committee

whose chairman said he didn’t understand it,

passed by a Congress that exempts themselves from it,

signed by a president who smokes,

with funding administered by a treasury chief who didn’t pay his taxes,

all to be overseen by a surgeon general who is obese,

and financed by a country that’s broke?????

Single Mom: 101

“Class is in session…”

Day 1. Inventory.

As a NEW Store Manager, my 1st day on the job I took a close look at my store’s last physical inventory. Then I watched how things were being done w/no outside direction. Then I watched how they DID their physical inventory for that next quarter. At that point I would have enough information to make an action plan to achieve the desired results. Increased productivity.

As a Single Mom, my 1st day on the job involved praying to the Lord that this boy would just latch on & save me the $24 a can instant formula cause Jeffrey was 8lbs 12oz 23inches of screaming wide awake boy:D My priority was getting food in that baby’s mouth, clothes on his sweet behind & a promise that he would have things BETTER than I had it….& I had it pretty good. As the days go by I get a little better at hoping for the best but planning for the worst.

Both these roles are one and the same. Women of today still play their roles as loving mothers WHILE providing much needed leadership & guidance in the executive workforce. Mom-preneur’s are beginning to dominate the workforce creating start up business’s often spurring local economy. From flea markets to multil-million dollars Realtors, Mom-preneur’s are helping LEAD America out of this recession…

Homework: Take inventory of where you are; in life/work/relationships right now. Take a serious look at where you want to be. Taste it, walk around in it, seriously consider every tangible aspect of your life. Write it all down. Compare it to where you are now. Now, how long do you want it to take you to get there? It’s your choice…if you start now & work quickly you could reach your goal tomorrow. Show your work via attachment or comment.

Fact: If you sit here wondering you will never get there.

HAITI: A Miracle?

At 4:53 (local time) Tuesday Jan. 12th 2010 on the tiny island nation of Haiti a miracle began…the world began to realize, we are “one people under God.”

With the help of the internet & social

networking sites such as

Twitter & FaceBook

the world was able to experience one of

the worst natural disasters of our history in REAL TIME.

haiti comp teenAs some Haitian teenagers chatted w/FaceBook friends many mothers & fathers may have been finishing up Skype calls from work to clients or loved ones, all waiting for 5 o’clock and the end of another long workday.

None of them could have ever suspected that their lives would be changed forever in less than 40 seconds.


HAITI island-paradise

A 7.0 EARTH QUAKE (<–click details) rocked Haiti

for the first time in over 200 years,

waking the world from a long

sleep of ignorance.

Captured forever via camera phone, video and western media then unleashed on the world over the internet within seconds of the first tremor. Raw, uncensored images flooding the world so quickly, no one could even divert their eyes.

the fragility of human life.

Face the unacceptable truth;

“We can not control our own destiny…

it is all left in God’s hands.”


haiti-7Like the ultimate & most horrific reality show ever imagined, Americans & people from every country in the world were forced to watch as a proud, yet impoverished nation was destroyed by “an act of God.”  From TV to the internet, there was no way to miss every detail of this historic event, making it so much more real & personal.

We each could relate to a volunteer digging through stone w/bare fingers, mother searching for her living family members on FaceBook or a survivor smiling up at the heavens, just so amazed to be alive. Together we watched and listened to the story of Haiti & it’s people unfold. Learned how it went from being one of the 1st black nations to stand up & gain their freedom to the poorest nation in the western hemisphere and now the site of the worst natural disasters in human history.

TOGETHER, we all became one HEART, breaking for Haiti’s people. Pouring out our grief in thoughts, prayers & donations to the victims. The entire WORLD realized that DEATH doesn’t see age, race, bank account or belief system…it will take all that cross it’s path. That epiphany may be the “shot heard round the world,” for the human race.

“We all share this planet and we are all fundamentally the same: flesh, blood & bone.

We laugh, we cry & we rebuild!”

011910earthquake2MATTSome ignorant people have been quoted saying that this disaster hit Haiti because it somehow deserved it, thinking it was a form of punishment for some sin. Perhaps it was…but not as hatred spreaders would want us to believe, as a second chance.  Maybe the entire world let our greed & love of material goods stand in the way of our charity.

Haiti is not the sinner or the victim, but the martyr. Her people have always suffered great hardships but have silently endured and will do so again. Their spirit has allowed some of them to survive being buried alive for longer than anyone believed humanly possible. When asked, they each say their faith kept them alive & their first words were used to thank God.

I think that if there is lesson to be learned from the earthquake in Haiti, it is that there is nothing more precious in life than living it. Everything can be replaced, except people.

“A man can LOSE all of his WEALTH and if he works HARD he can EARN it all back.  If a man wastes TIME, it is gone FOREVER.”

Make the most of every moment…

Every action you take makes a difference in the BIG picture…

Doing nothing, sometimes makes the biggest impact…

Wake Up…

So…it’s Sales meeting Tuesday once again.  CLICK HERE —> Tuesday

For some of us, it’s a wake up call that the week is here

& we need to get moving before it leaves us behind!

Wake up!Last night during my usual call with MyST I discovered he is definitely NOT a morning person. He described his “method” of setting his alarm for 7:00, then 7:10, 7:20…etc. etc. Shocking as it might seem, he still wakes up a lil cranky.

I think his exact words were something like this, “When the 1st alarm goes off I still hate the world so I hit the snooze button, next one I still hate people. By the time I get to the last one I only hate animals so I figure its safe to get up & start the day!”

*Giggles…I thought this was the funniest thing I had ever heard. He asked how I am when I get up and I really had to think about it. As most of you know, I rarely sleep to begin with but I think I’m usually pretty “up & ready to go” in the mornings….except of course when I’m not! Then I need my coffee & a boiled egg to get my motor running:D

That leads me to my next question: “HOW ARE YOU IN THE MORNINGS?”
