Luck

Some times in life we lose focus of what is really important in life. Luckily, I have an amazing 4 year old niece, D.J. (Delilah Jean) who is constantly reminding me;) Most mornings she comes down to watch me get ready for work, she loves to watch me put on my make up.

“You know what Aunt Kim? You sure are lucky…” D.J. announces.

“Why baby girl?” I ask smiling.

“Because your sister had daughters so you wouldn’t have to put on your make up all by yourself!” she giggles.

Funny but until that moment I didn’t really stop to think how incredibly lucky I really am to have such a wonderful relationship with my sister & that she has delightful daughters that have become like my own. Even a 4 year old could see that LUCK wasn’t about winning something or money at all….but about having amazing people to enrich your life.

As you walk through your day, take a moment to truly appreciate all the things God has provided that have no price but which make you feel like the luckiest person on Earth. I think you will be pleasantly surprised;)

New Beginning

One day early last fall, I walked outside, looked up & saw this, “JESUS LOVES YOU…” written across the sky.

I realized then that maybe, God was trying to tell me something. Funny how easy those words are to forget, yet when you need Him…He is always there.

VIKINGS-SAINTS REMATCH

FOOTBALL SEASON IS FINALLY HERE…

The NFL doesn’t disappoint by kicking off the season with a blockbuster REMATCH!

The Minnesota Vikings take on the New Orleans Saints tonight to the delight of fans everywhere.

Bret Favre never fails to disappoint when it comes to pre-season drama and of course this season was no different. Waiting til only a few weeks ago to announce once again, that contrary to popular belief, he was returning for another year as the driving force of the Minnesota Vikings. Of course during his press conference he made several Favre like comments that implied he didn’t know if with his ankle injury he would be able to live up to the stellar season the Vikings had last year, but those who have followed Brett’s career know he wouldn’t have returned if he couldn’t perform.

“To be totally honest with you, all those hits didn’t really hurt…”

admitted Brett Favre when asked if he felt that he was targeted to be “taken out” by the Saints defense in the NFL Championship Game of 2009.

This season opener will test not only Brett’s ankle but allow the Vikings the chance to dish out a little payback for the controversial 2009 NFC Championship game. Anyone who missed it, didn’t get to see several late hits by the Saints defense that left the already aging quarterback slow to get up and perhaps contributed to his uncharacteristic final interception. Never one to openly complain, Favre dispelled rumors that he felt the Saints were intentionally trying to take him out of the game adding, “I felt worse after the San Fransisco game than that one,” perhaps his way of letting the New Orleans Saints know he can take whatever they want to dish out.

Last years final match up went into overtime leaving football fans everywhere glued to their TV sets during the final seconds of what was disputed to be the best game of the entire season. Ending in Favre’s fatal interception and crushing the Vikings dreams of taking home Superbowl rings.

The Saints won 31 – 28 thanks to a 40 yard field goal by Garrett Hartley. Despite the Saints victory, die hard fans across the country were left with the feeling that this match up was not really over, allowing the rivalry to simmer throughout the off season to a near breaking point.

Tonight’s game will not only help add some closure to last years heart wrenching Vikings loss but set the tone for the season.  A win over the Saints will let the NFL and the world know, Bret Farve and his boys are back: stronger and  better than ever! Make no mistake, Drew Brees and his army of Saints fans are not likely to let that happen easily.

New Orleans Saints will have home field advantage, sending thousands of “Aint’s” fans into a cheering frenzy. Pollsters and NFL spreads alike also favor the Saints to win tonight by 5 points, with the total sitting at 48 points. Regardless of the outcome, history has shown that when these two teams lock horns, both teams play at their best!

Tonight’s game will hold the answers to questions sports fans everywhere want to know:

  • Can 40 year old Brett Favre possibly live up to his stellar 2009 stats, throwing for 4202 yards w/33 touchdowns & only 7 interceptions?
  • Did the Saints shrug off their post Superbowl hangovers in time to get themselves back into post season contention?
  • Will Percy Harvin be able to fill Sydney Rice’s shoes as Favre’s favorite target?
  • Does Drew Brees really have what it takes to become one of the top NFL quarterbacks of all time or was he a one hit wonder?
  • Has Adrian Peterson figured out how to hold on to the ball?
  • How will Reggie Bush perform in light of his humiliating Heisman Trophy scandal?

RYAN LAWRENCE TABLER 11/15/1976 – 8/9/2010

Son of my dear friend & sister of my heart, Barbara Stamm.  Words can’t express what you must be feeling or how I wish I could take the pain away, but I hope in these you find some comfort.

The Cord

We are connected,
My child and I, by
An invisible cord
Not seen by the eye.

It’s not like the cord
That connects us ’til birth
This cord can’t been seen
By any on Earth.

This cord does it’s work
Right from the start.
It binds us together
Attached to my heart.

I know that it’s there
Though no one can see

From my child to me.

Lena Horne 1917-2010

#RIP Lena Horne American Civil Rights Movement & Hollywood Legend 1917-2010

“She left the World a kinder place than she found it.”

My first memories of Lena Horne were of her visits to Sesame Street. Her silky voice & sweet smile made me wonder where such nice ladies came from? As I grew older I realized she was the SAME Lena Horne that I had watched in old black & white Hollywood movies & singing songs like “Stormy Weather” & “Man I love.” As an adult I began to look deeper into this Hollywood Icon realizing she was also one of America’s Civil Rights movement Icon’s too.

Using her musical God given talents, Ms. Horne was able to change the World’s views on segregation during World War II by refusing to perform where German POW’s were allowed to sit in front of African American service men. Many say her poignant voice & radiant charm was able to pierce the hearts of men that bullet nor blade could touch, changing the face of the Civil Rights Movement in the process. No longer were only prominent black men such Malcolm X and Martin Luther King standing up for change, women became empowered to enter the political forum.

5 yr old Blind Korean Pianist

5 year old Korean Pianist Yeh Eun has been blind since birth, according to her adoptive parents. Yeh Eun first began playing music at the age of 3 when she began playing a melody her mother had been singing throughout the day. Since then she has been able to to learn & play songs after only listening to them once.

My dear friend Mona Atkinson posted this video on FaceBook today with the caption,

“I guarantee you will be crying before this is over.”

Mona was 100% correct & I felt the need to share this amazing gift

with my entire Kimberanna.com family.

Thank you Mona for bringing this amazing footage into my life,

it has touched me & given me renewed hope.

Watching a child that had to overcome so much, create such beauty is just breath taking.

Tax Deadline 2010

That’s right…today is the day, April 15th 2010 has finally arrived!

Most Americans have already filed there taxes but many who actually owe money have taken the, “I’m not giving them my money until the last possible minute,” attitude and waited until today to post their tax returns. (I believe my dad may have coined this phrase or at least made it popular, lol.)

Just in case you are one of these “last minute” people, here are some helpful tips to make today a little less stressful:

IRS TAX TIP 2010-69 -> Click here to go to IRS.GOV

If you can’t meet the April deadline to file your tax return, you can get an automatic six month extension of time to file from the IRS.

Here are seven things you need to know about filing an extension:

  1. Extra time to file An extension will give you extra time to get your paperwork to the IRS, but it does not extend the time you have to pay any tax due. You will owe interest on any amount not paid by the April 15 deadline, plus a late payment penalty if you have not paid at least 90 percent of your total tax by that date.
  2. File on time even if you can’t pay If your return is completed but you are unable to pay the full amount of tax due, do not request an extension. File your return on time and pay as much as you can. The IRS will send you a bill or notice for the balance due.To apply online for a payment agreement, go to IRS.gov and click “Online Payment Agreement Application” at the left side of the home page under Online Services. If you are unable to make payments, call the IRS at 800-829-1040 to discuss your options.
  3. Form to file Request an extension to file by submitting Form 4868, Application for Automatic Extension of Time to File U.S. Individual Income Tax Return to the IRS by April 15, 2010, or make an extension-related electronic credit card payment. For more information about extension-related credit card payments, see Form 4868.
  4. E-file extension You can e-file an extension request using tax preparation software with your own computer or by going to a tax preparer who has the software. The IRS will acknowledge receipt of the extension request if you file by computer.
  5. Traditional Free File and Free File Fillable Forms You can use both Free File options to file an extension. Access the Free File page at IRS.gov.
  6. Electronic funds withdrawal If you ask for an extension via computer, you can also choose to pay any expected balance due by authorizing an electronic funds withdrawal from a checking or savings account. You will need the appropriate bank routing and account numbers.For information about these and other methods of payment, visit IRS.gov or call 800-TAX-1040 (800-829-1040).
  7. How to get formsForm 4868 is available for download at IRS.gov or may be ordered by calling 1-800-TAX-FORM (800-829-3676).You can also obtain the form at your local IRS office. Telephone requests normally take 10 days to fill.
