Nostalgia?

Remember when: Catching Fireflies

Could Happily Occupy An Entire Evening?

“Just after church this past Sunday I heard a loud laugh & turned thinking I knew exactly where that sparkling sound must be coming from…my amazing friend Linda Arnold, to my great regret it was just another stunning blond with an infectious laugh.

That laugh made me remember all the special moments we had shared laughing, crying & making it through life one day at a time. The very next morning I got an e-mail from Linda letting me know that she had thought of me Sunday too…funny how things work out isn’t it?”

Here is some of what Linda included in her e-mail to me….

How’s This For Nostalgia?

It took three minutes for the TV to warm up?

You got your windshield cleaned, oil checked,

and gas pumped, without asking, all for free,

every time? And you didn’t pay for air?

And, you got trading stamps to boot?

When being sent to  the principal’s office

was nothing compared to the fate that

awaited the student at home?

Basically we were in fear for our lives,

but it wasn’t because of drive-by shootings,

drugs, gangs, etc.

Our parents and grandparents were a much

bigger threat! But we survived because their

love was greater than the threat.

…as well as summers filled with bike rides,

Hula Hoops, and visits to the pool, and eating

Kool-Aid powder with sugar.

Didn’t that feel good, just to go back and say,

‘Yeah, I remember that’?

How Many Of These

Do You Remember?

Wax Coke-shaped bottles with colored

sugar water inside.

Candy cigarettes

Coffee shops with Table Side Jukeboxes.

HOWEVER, IF THERE IS ONE FLAW IN WOMEN,

IT IS THAT THEY FORGET THEIR WORTH.

I definitely remember catching fireflies at night with my sister and cousins. We'd catch loads and fill up a tent with them, it was amazing. Bike rides, hula hoops, bubbles, swimming in a river and eating tons and tons of fruit, usually plucked fresh. Ah, those were the days!
