I can tell you this, “Elvis Presley, John Wayne, Michael Jackson, Elizabeth Taylor & Dirty Harry are all names that will make my MOM nod instantly if you mention them.” She knows them for sure! She will probably go on to tell you about her two crazy daughters. Their RED JACKETS & fold open Michael Jackson records, smiling as though reliving some of those happy memories.
That’s the gift Michael Jackson gave the world. He provided a SOUNDTRACK throughout most of our lives. New artists would come steal our hearts from time to time but people like Elvis Presley, the Beatles & Michael Jackson were constants. Timeless.

Yes, his music was amazing. (Almost daring us not to move with
the music) It was being able to learn the dance moves,
knowing more about him than really any other artist out there.

One picture I remember got a lot of attention was of Michael Jackson & Tatum O’Neal on a date! I remember thinking,
“I wonder what the old people will have to say about a black singing star & a white movie star dating!”
Honestly, I had heard & seen those two kids in movies & TV so much I wasn’t shocked…I mean how many other kids lived in TV Land & Movies at the time? Brooke Shields? *Giggles.

Terry always made it look easy & usually learned the steps quicker. I think we even tried to use the steps for a CHEER routine.
That must of been during our “JOCK PRINCESS” phase at Nelsonville York High School! Boy. Doesn’t feel like long ago but a lifetime has happened since then!
“We are the World” really taught me to believe that Michael Jackson was more than a pretty singer, he had a VOICE. Not just a happy performer acting in whiteface but a true artist with deep beliefs.
Sometimes the music & the beat can trick the mind into not listening to the message of the storyteller. Death is a constant that gives us one last chance to hear everything again, tempered by the wisdom of time.
Regarding the LEGACY of Michael Jackson, do not make judgment guided by one simple man’s opinion. Instead take a moment to search the past through the eyes of modern technology! Walk through the pieces of the man’s life, to come up with your own decision.

Not more than a week ago I would have laughed if someone asked me,
“Can SWINE FLU affect you?”
Today my answer would have to be, it’s very POSSIBLE. The Orlando Sentinel reported the 10th case of Swine Flu among UCF http://www.ucf.edu/ students. The 1st two cases were just reported June 25th and more than tripled within days.
Being a mom of a teenage football player that means to me: this thing seems to pop up around young adults & teens. I wanted to know enough about it to be sure no one I love gets sick.

How does swine flu spread?

What is Swine Influenza?

Swine influenza viruses may circulate among swine throughout the year, but most outbreaks occur during the late fall and winter months similar to outbreaks in humans. Can humans catch swine flu?
Swine flu viruses do not normally infect humans. However, sporadic human infections with swine flu have occurred. Most commonly, these cases occur in persons with direct exposure to pigs (e.g. children near pigs at a fair or workers in the swine industry). In addition, there have been documented cases of one person spreading swine flu to others. For example, an outbreak of apparent swine flu infection in pigs in Wisconsin in 1988 resulted in multiple human infections, and, although no community outbreak resulted, there was antibody evidence of virus transmission from the patient to health care workers who had close contact with the patient.

Living in Central Florida & living just minutes from Cinderella’s castle… I often find myself wishing for my very own “Disney like” soundtrack. In my version of the perfect day, I would wake up every morning dancing w/bluebirds to the into from “It’s a beautiful day in the neighborhood…” from PBS’s famous television show Mister Rogers neighborhood (performed by the shows star, Fred Rogers.)
I remember the good memories I had watching Mr. Rogers as I grew up. True, I’m a little too young to have seen the original shows but being an Army brat meant watching “Government Cable.” Lot’s of black & white reruns. Plus living in Germany & places so far away didn’t help with channel selection in English. PBS shows almost always made the cut of “approved for general audiences” so along with Big Bird”s Sesame Street, Mr. Rogers neighborhood became part of MY NEIGHBORHOOD.

Knowing I could always count on people like Mr. Rogers gave me faith that if “I believe it, I can achieve it!” That’s why I always try so hard to help “Save the World…” & really believe WE are each either part of the PROBLEM or part of the SOLUTION. Mr. Rogers helped teach me we do it this way, because it’s the right thing to do. Basically “treat others as you would have them treat you.”
I know that right now things don’t look good, but I know that if we all work together things will keep getting better & better. Just like all Americans, my family’s future depends on it! So let’s get out there & show the WORLD what we are made of.

The 4th of July should be full of joy & family fun, for some of us it will always be stained by sadness. RIP Steve McNair former NFL Quarterback & Nashville citizen. My son, Jeffrey & I will always remember you as a brave TITAN and warrior of one of the greatest sports in the world.
Steve LaTreal McNair (February 14, 1973 – July 4, 2009) Our thoughts & prayers go out to your family, wife Mechelle and four sons Steve Junior, Steven, Tyler and Trenton McNair. May the media & public give you the respect & space you deserve during this tragic period of loss. Steve McNair was a man to be admired that left a legacy his children can be proud of. Please, Let us not allow the circumstances of his tragic death to overshadow his legendary life of accomplishments.

We all need to help “write the next great chapter, in the great American story…”
This year the 4th of July meant I got to share my version
of this holiday with several people who are really
experiencing it for the 1st time this year. It made the
pressure pretty high, with little actual planning so I ended
up just “winging it.”
When I tried to explain to my nieces what the
4th of July means I was given a little assist
by our new 1st family, the OBAMAS.
Their oldest daughter Malia Ann Obama
shares her birthday with the
Unites States of America.
Brianna, my oldest niece, reminded me “Izzy’s birthday is Monday,” so she understands how important birthday’s are.
“America gets fireworks…
instead of presents!” she giggles.
Even a child knows everything deserves
something on it’s birthday but what
do you give a country?

Of course my great Dane of a husband being so worldly…
knew the BBC.COM and of course the WIKIPEDIA version
of 4th of July, so he was an easy sell.
What he didn’t know was what real Americans
did to actually celebrate it. I mean he grew up watching
American movies as much as we did, so he half expected
a marching band or a CMT music video come to life.
*Giggles…
What actually occured was a lot of GOOD CLEAN FUN!
Tons of food, some burnt to a crisp…lot’s of splashing in
the pool, few false alarms from over protective psyco
mom’s/mini heart attacks, more food, streaking by the
boys, T&A chicken fighting, hairpulling, more moons,
DESSERT followed by an AWESOME firework display
(thx Morten, Jeff & Jimmy.) All from the comfort of
Jr & Ann’s new HOME SWEET POOL HOME.
Things went even better than we could have ever planned it.
All the kids loved it, most to the point of sleep:D
The older boys like COLT watched out for the little ones,
teaching Tallen that he had nothing to fear from those
BIG explosions in the sky!
Everyone huddled together to share this moment
in each others HISTORY…one day we will always remember
& keep dear fordozens of 4th of July’s to come…
