Emilee Cox
Seems we have a lot of people who like to throw stones, when it comes to the title of Queen of texting! Recently 14 year old High School (Clermont Florida) student Emilee Cox was recognized for making 35,463 texts in the month of June alone! That breaks down to 1,182+ texts a day, 49+ texts an hour or almost a text a minute.
Several of you may doubt the validity of this claim, Orlando Sentinel reporter Etan Horowitz verified this information with Sprint and received an actual copy of the June statement from Emilee’s father, Brad Cox. As a former cheerleading coach and current friend of the Cox family, I can tell you that Emilee will perhaps exceed that record in the very near future. Emilee Cox is not only a bright and social teen, she is a vital part of her close knit family of nine. Texting playing an important part in keeping the family informed and organized.
Emilee Cox and her family should not be criticized for her high number of texts. How many parents out there can brag their children put that many thoughts into print, EVER? Twitter, (a free social messaging utility for staying connected in real-time) is based upon the same limited character format as texting and is fast becoming a leading method of communication among the tech industry elite and scholars alike ,due to the ease of conveying information in quick, easy to read “footprints” instead of more long drawn out news media outlets. Many phone experts even reccomend using texting after disasters, texting actually being an excellent way to teach teens how to convey concise and detailed information in clear simple manner.
In an era when most teens spend their time flicking through TV channels, reading and writing have fallen by the wayside. Emilee Cox has divoted her time to communication. Ms. Cox definately has things to say as evident by her 35,463 texts from June. The question is, is the world ready for this new generation of ”plugged in” teens? I’m keeping my eye on Emilee Cox… don’t be surprised to find that Ms. Cox may possibly change the face of Social Networking as we know it. Can’t we get this girl a scholarship instead of scorn? Shouldn’t we reward creative minds…
Tune in next week to see Emilee Cox on Good Morning America…
